
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
WHAT IS IT:
SNAP helps low-income Ohioans stretch their food budgets and buy healthy food. Funds are distributed electronically through the Ohio Direction Card (similar to a debit card).
Who is eligible:
Households with gross monthly income at or under 130% of the federal poverty guidelines. Some households may qualify if they have incomes over the limit if someone in the household is elderly or disabled. This chart shows gross annual income as a percentage of the federal poverty level.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
WHAT IS IT:
Federal nutrition assistance program through food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.
Who is eligible:
People whose total household income is below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
WHAT IS IT:
A federal nutrition assistance program that provides low-income, elderly Ohioans with a monthly box of food.
Who is eligible:
People age 60 or older with total household gross income is at or below 130% of the federal poverty guidelines.
Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC)
WHAT IS IT:
A federal program that helps income-eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, women who recently had a baby, infants, and children up to five years of age who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition. The program provides nutrition education; breastfeeding education and support; highly nutritious foods; and referral to prenatal and pediatric health care and other human service programs.
Who is eligible:
Ohio residents who are at medical or nutritional risk, and have income at or below 185% of federal poverty guidelines.
WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP)
WHAT IS IT:
A program that provides nutritionally at-risk women and children with fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from farmers' markets and farmstands. Program participants receive $5 coupons to spend directly with farmers at farmers' markets or farmstands.
Who is eligible:
Ohio residents who are at medical or nutritional risk, and have income at or below 185% of federal poverty guidelines.
Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (Senior FMNP)
WHAT IS IT:
A program that provides eligible seniors with ten $5 coupons to use at participating farmers' markets and farmstands to purchase Ohio-grown fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and honey.
Who is eligible:
Ohioans age 60 or older living in the 81 participating counties with household income that falls within certain guidelines (varies by county).
Produce Perks
WHAT IS IT:
Produce Perks supports fruits and vegetables purchases for SANP recipients. The program provides a dollar-for-dollar match on SNAP purchases, to be spent on fresh, healthy foods. Shoppers can use the program at over 130 farmers markets and grocery stores throughout the state.
Who is eligible:
Ohioans who use the Ohio Direction card for SNAP/EBT benefits.
