Read the PRx Report: Produce Prescription: Exploring Participant Engagement and Retention in Voucher vs. Home Delivery Incentive Distribution Models
The program, led by The Ohio Nutrition Incentive Network (OHNIN), Produce Perks Midwest
(PPM), Ohio University Extension, FARE (Food Access Raises Everyone), and three healthcare
partners—Bon Secours Mercy Health (Cincinnati), Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland), and Five Rivers
Health Centers (Dayton)—engaged 177 Ohio residents, through two, 6-month program cohorts
each. A total of 48 individuals participated in both cohorts.
Nationally, Ohio has disproportionately higher rates of diabetes and food insecurity. Partnering with
healthcare providers to increase affordable access to fresh fruits and vegetables, the project explored
how fruit and vegetable incentives can improve patient dietary health and reduce medication use, while
simultaneously strengthening localized food systems.
