A Letter from Tevis Foreman on the Produce Perks Program Pause

Dear Friends and Partners,

In 2025, the USDA unexpectedly terminated a major federal grant that has supported the Produce Perks SNAP Matching Program for many years. Due to this loss of funding, the Produce Perks SNAP Matching program will pause in some regions of Ohio beginning April 1, 2026.

We want to be clear: this is a pause, not the end of Produce Perks.

For nearly a decade, Produce Perks has connected families using SNAP with fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables while supporting Ohio farmers and markets. Together with partners like you, we have helped build a program that strengthens local food systems and improves access to healthy food across the state.

While the conditions are challenging, we are actively working to secure new funding and restore the program as quickly as possible. Additionally, our team is actively advocating for nutrition incentive programming at both state and federal levels. We are deeply committed to bringing Produce Perks back to communities as soon as possible.

This news is difficult for the many farmers, markets, community organizations, and families who rely on this program. We strongly encourage you to share your story and voice. Contact your state and federal representatives and tell them how important the Produce Perks SNAP Match program is for your community.

Please know that our other nutrition incentive programs, including the Family Fruit and Vegetable Program and the Produce Prescription Program, remain operational and will continue to serve communities throughout Ohio.

The passion and commitment of farmers, partners, and families across Ohio remind us every day why this work matters, and we are confident that the next chapter of Produce Perks will grow from the strong foundation we’ve built together.
