Title: Market Events Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Programs

Grade: 1099 Contractor

Location: Hybrid, with in-state travel required

Summary:

Produce Perks Midwest (PPM) seeks a Contractor to support activities related to public events held at select Ohio farmers’ markets. The Contractor will represent PPM at market events to engage Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligible families in nutrition incentive programming by enrolling eligible families in PPM’s Fruit and Vegetable Program, providing each enrolled family a $140 Fruit and Vegetable Coupon booklet redeemable for fresh fruits and vegetables at participating locations. The Contractor will represent PPM and enroll TANF eligible families at scheduled farmers’ market events within Ohio.

Activities include:

  1. Pre-Event Activities: Gather and pack event materials from PPM office, or at a designated location; travel to scheduled market events; arrive at event one hour prior to event start time; check-in with the market manager and begin PPM booth set up.
  2. At-Market Event Activities: Screen customers for TANF eligibility; enroll customers by obtaining a completed Ohio ODJFS TANF Non-Assistance Self-Attestation Form; distribute Fruit and Vegetable Program booklets and nutrition education materials; educate customers about the Produce Perks program and follow market operating procedures.
  3. Post-Event Activities: Break down and pack market materials; return materials to PPM office; and complete event report.
  4. Additional at-market event tasks as agreed upon by both parties.

Nutrition Incentive Programs overview:

  • Produce Perks: Ohio’s nutrition incentive program, provides a $1-for-$1 match for SNAP/EBT customers to purchase fruits and vegetables when shopping at participating locations.
  • The Fruit and Vegetable Coupon Program supports low-income families with minor children in the household in purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables at participating locations.

Required skills and Experiences:

  • Capacity to think critically, treat people with dignity, and follow processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to explain program opportunities, and answer questions.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Not Required but Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Familiarity with farmers’ markets, local food systems, and healthy lifestyle practices
  • Knowledge of nutrition incentive programming

Basic Working Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

Compensation:
Not to exceed $200 per market event. Compensation for market events reflects eight (8) hours at a rate of $25/hour. Details of compensation will be outlined in employment contract.
